Subject : Efficacy test for sterile air
Dear sir,
The procedure for testing :
Two sets of samples were collected for checking sterility efficacy of the apparatus provided. Lab space 20 x 20 ft was used for the experiment. Steromax air sterilizer was used to produce sterile air in the above room for two different time intervals: 2 hrs and 18 hrs. Sterile nutrients plates (Malt extract yeasty extract glucose peptone agar and Nutrient agar) were exposed for 15 min before and after test period. Number of colony forming units (CFU) were noted after incubation of plates after 72 h at room temperature.. Experiment was carried out in duplicates.

Report on testing of one U.V. based air purifier, Brand: "Sterlo-Max", submitted by M/s. Relique Technologies, Pune — 411 030, vide letter dated 06.09.04.
Sample :
Steel made U.V. Electrostatic precipitator based air sterilizer.
Brand: "Sterlo-Max". Model: SM2K.
Sr. No.: 0004000006.
Test Procedure:
Initially, the control count of bacterial and fungal organisms was ascertain from different location of nonsterile room of 3.5 X 3.2 X 3.2 m3. Size with one ventilation netted window . This is done by expose plate method i.e. by exposing open sterile nutrient agar plates to and fro, up and down in a one cubic meter area at a distance of half meter(near the blower of sterilizer and one meter from the location of sterilizer (at two different direction i.e. at center and right respectively) when it is in off condition(sterilizer was kept in front of the window at a height of two feet). Such a air sampling was done for 3 minutes, then the plates were closed and kept for incubation for 48 hours at 37 °C (plate sampling were done in duplicate).
This procedure were repeated while the above mentioned air sterilizer was in operation, at different time intervals (after air sterilizer was put on).
Same procedure were conducted with the sterile sabouraud's agar plates for ascertaining viable fungal counts, if any in the same room.
Results:

Remarks :
As per the results obtained (as mentioned in the above table ), it can be concluded that the above mentioned aire sterilizer when it is in operation (sterilizer was put on ), can reduce the bioburden of microbial (bacterial / fungal ) population to the extent of 90 % after two hours.
